Helle Nielsen and Rasmus BondeIn the presence of a large crowd the final day of the Victor Dutch International tournament started off with the Mixed Doubles. This Danish final was won by Rasmus Bonde/Helle Nielsen with 21-15 and 21-12. The losing finalist of last year, Ukrainian Larisa Griga, won the woman’s singles with 21-19 and 21-19. It wasn’t an easy victory against the Japanese Yu Wakita, it was a fierce battle up until the final point.

Victor Dutch International 2008 - Friday

IpsenToday, the main tournament of the Victor Dutch International started at 09.00 with the mixed doubles. The top favourites Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Kostiuczyk had withdrawn before the tournament already. Rasmus Bonde and Helle Nielsen might turn out to be the main beneficiaries, since they proceeded easily to the quarterfinals. They will be accompanied by unseeded Scotsmen Watson Briggs and Jillie Cooper, the fourth seeded Matthew Honey/Heather Olver and the Belgian pair Wouter Claes/Nathalie Descamps.

Last qualification tournament started

Marie Roepke and Jacob ChemnitzThis week’s Dutch International in Wateringen is the last chance to earn important points for the Olympic qualification, and it is also the last chance for the European players to get points towards qualification for this year’s Circuit Finals. Jacob Chemnitz from Denmark is one of the players who can qualify for the Circuit Finals if he makes a good result in men’s doubles this week. He came of to a good start in the tournament as he won his opening mixed doubles together with Marie Roepke in straight sets.

Coaching Conference attracts participants from 9 countries

Jan RamlovBadminton Europe and the Denmark Badminton Association organised a Coaching Conference alongside the European Championships. The presenters were Kenneth Bastiaens (a tennis coach from Belgium) and Jan Ramlov (a physical training expert from Denmark).  The theme for the conference was focused on developing young athletes. 35 participants attended the conference, coming from 9 different countries.
